KEY EXPERIENCE SUMMARY – Total experience – 48 years.
After qualifying, experience was obtained in urban road design, storm water drainage and sewer design, and construction supervision with Watford Council in the UK. From 1981, following emigration to South Africa, two years were spent on structural design and site supervision of water retaining structures and other water related projects with Umgeni Water.

Joined Pietermaritzburg City Council in 1983 with whom fifteen years’ experience were obtained in local government engineering. Six years of this period were spent in roads and drainage and nine years in a senior management position in water and sanitation.

Joined Jeffares, Green, Parkman (JGP) in 1998 as a Senior Engineer and Project Manager. I managed the engineering work involved in JGP’s involvement in the Aquamanzi consortium implementing a Build, Operate, Train and transfer (BoTT) FIDIC based contract for KwaZulu Natal to fast track rural water supply projects.

In March 2005 became an independent consultant specialising in Project Management, Municipal and Water Sector Support. A 6-month period was spent providing engineering support to the Umshwathi Municipality.

From August 2007 until February 2012, I contracted to the Ilembe Consortium on the construction of the King Shaka International Airport. I managed the FIDIC contracts for the specialist major equipment and installations for the airport and was a member of the senior management team for the project. This project was completed successfully on program ahead of the 2010 World Cup and I remained on site for 18 months closing out the main contract and specialist subcontracts during the defect’s liability period.

From March 2012 to March 2020, I contracted to Umgeni Water as a Senior Project Manager for Umgeni Water managing wastewater and water treatment projects. I was involved in dealing with many contractual claims some of which were taken to adjudication or arbitration. During this period of Project Management, I have also mentored new project managers.

Since April 2020 I have been self-employed and working mainly on claims support and the adjudication of construction disputes. I have been involved with 7 adjudications and amicable settlements during 2021 and 2022
