Robertson, Steven

Competent In These Forms of Contracts:
FIDIC, GCC

Direct ADR experience has been via DAB referrals under the FIDIC Conditions of Contract. Have prepared submissions and responses to DAB’s as the Employer’s representative, and attended DAB hearings in the same capacity.

Have also been involved as Employer in amicable settlement discussions, both in cases where a DAB Decision is disputed, and prior to a DAB Referral. Cases in the latter category have generally been successful.

My specific portfolio of projects has stood in excess of R2.0 billion (US$ 135.0 million). I have worked across the full spectrum of road engineering role players: from contracting to consulting and for clients/state authorities. I have specialist knowledge in contract management, claims management and contractual dispute resolution which has been enhanced through training in arbitration and mediation.

Engineering Technical Expertise and Experience:

Principal field of technical expertise is in road maintenance, road rehabilitation and road improvement projects, including greenfields projects. Experience covers all aspects of such projects from concept design through to construction, and includes periods with consulting engineers and with the national roads agency. Also have experience in concrete structures and building works.

I have also held various leadership roles during my career, including managing engineering teams for a major international consultancy, coupled with client liaison, business development and team profitability responsibilities. Recently, from 2016 to date, I have been South Africa’s representative on an international road safety panel (PIARC) where my focus has been on the road safety issues confronting low and middle income countries. I am also actively involved in the mentorship of young engineers helping develop their skills towards PrEng. My role with South Africa’s National Road Agency has also built my community and stakeholder liaison skills, as well as giving me the platform to drive sustainability and safety enhancement on major road and highway projects.
