Following a career being the Consulting Engineering Company’s director responsible for Claims and Dispute Resolution on a multitude of CE Contracts, as self-employed retiree has gained extensive experience over the last 14 years on all aspects of ADR including Mediation, Adjudication and Amicable Settlement, providing services as expert advisor, claims evaluator, adjudication defence statement producer, expert witness, Mediator, Adjudicator and Amicable Settlement Facilitator.

Engineering Technical Expertise and Experience:

Planning, Design and Contract Implementation on Roads and Freeways, Bridges, Bulk and Municipal Infrastructure, Airport Facilities (Landside and Airside), Water and Sewage Purification, Development Projects (e.g. Sport, Shopping,Industrial, etc). Particular expertise in Contract Management, Materials and QA, Claim and Dispute Resolution in RSA, neighbouring countries and elsewhere in Africa and the Middle East.

I practiced as a civil engineering consultant since graduating at University of Stellenbosch end 1970. My career spanned a very wide spectrum of projects undertaken by my employing firm (Van Wyk & Louw/ Africon/ Aurecon/ Zutari) in Southern African countries (South Africa, Lesotho, Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique, Malawi, Kenya and Zambia) as well as internationally (United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar and Yemen).

My career encompassed all aspects of design and supervision of urban and rural freeway, road and other infrastructure development projects, as well as multidisciplinary commercial and industrial developments and projects such as airport airside and terminal facilities, air force bases, shopping centres, sport stadiums, water purification works, sewage treatment plants and services, water and sewage reticulation infrastructure systems.

I have been self-employed since 2008, based in George, Western Cape, SA, specialising in Civil Engineering claims and dispute resolution, including amicable settlement facilitation. To this effect I rely on extensive experience gained throughout my career with the interpretation and application of a multitude of standardand project specifications as employed for the variety of civil engineering projects, as well as the various conditions of contract prescribed. These include, inter alia, CSRA 1986, SAICE (1990, 2004, 2010 and 2015), CIDB, SANS 1200, FIDIC (1984 and 1999 suites), SADC and COLTO.
